 Description: 

Functional Responsibility: The Network Administrator shall provide support to locally administered networks and/or workstations. The division’s locally administered network environments are a heterogeneous mix of workstations and laptops running Solaris (2.x and later), Windows 9xINT/2000/XP, and Linux operating systems used to meet project-specific (non-office automation) requirements. In many cases these computers share common peripherals such as hard drives, printers, scanners, CD-RWs, etc. The network components (routers, switches, and hubs) that interconnect these workstations to each other and other networks also fall under this tasking.

Professional Experience: The Network Administrator shall have experience in network administration.  Administrators placed in charge of Solaris workstations/servers shall have recent training (last 3 years) and experience in Solaris 2.6 or later.  Administrators placed in charge of Windows machines shall have recent training (last 3 years) and experience in Windows NT 4 or later (2000, XP).  Administrators placed in charge of Linux assets shall have recent training (last 3 years) and experience in PC-based Linux administration (e;g. Redhat 7.2 or later).  Administrators placed in charge of Tactical Platforms System Integration networks shall have a detailed working knowledge of Cisco routers and switches, their configuration and operating system software. Future upgrades or network component changes shall require administrator retraining.

The Network Administrator(s) shall have the knowledge of the state-of-the-art government and commercial network administration practices and products in order to make sound recommendations.

  • Evaluate and recommend network components, topologies and software to meet government needs or improve performance
  • Install and configure new network components and/or software applications
  • Perform hardware, operating system or application upgrades of workstations
  • Adding and deleting user accounts and workgroups
  • Implement and maintain network local network backups
  • Diagnose and fix network and network-related problems
  • Serve as a Point Of Contact when external network support is required from Eagle Alliance or NSAIITIS.
  • Maintain network configuration management and related documentation, including System Security Plan or other documents mandated by NSA
  • Assist with periodic government inventories of network equipment
  • Track software licenses (quantities used, quantities needed, due dates for renewal, etc.)
  • Implement policies and procedures for network usage and security in accordance with government regulations
  • Provide technical recommendations of network technologies, techniques or products as appropriate or requested
  • Provide technical network support to assist government personnel and customer personnel to identify and isolate faulty network components, software or configuration and restore the system(s) to full operational capabilities
  • Assess user skills and ensure they have sufficient access to make optimum use of networks without undue restrictions or authority
